Artist Falls is named for the fact that North Conway was a thriving artistic community in the 1800s and it was easier to paint a small waterfall nearby, than to lug your equipment several miles to something more noteworthy. I've not been there, but the falls are in a residential area. Access seems questionable...both times I've been there, no obvious access to the falls was found, and there is a fair amount of posted property along the way.

Take Route 302 into North Conway, and turn east on Artist Falls Road. After that, you're on your own.
