Alpental Falls is a tall, mostly seasonal, horsetail waterfall clearly visible from the parking lot at Alpental Ski Area. The unnamed watercourse skips about 250 down the tall cliff wall. I shot the falls in late September of 2004, in low water. For better information: Waterfalls of the Pacific Northwest

The broad cliff face is well exposed, so the sun will provide a lot of light, but due to the open nature of the cliff face, uneven lighting shouldn't be an issue. The falls face more or less southwest, so a polarizer won't have full effect, but certainly enough to darken and enrich the blue sky, if it's sunny. If the day is overcast, you'll likely have a better opportunity for a decent shot. A zoom lens will give you versatility in composition, as everything is moderately distant.
