Details:

Chittenango Falls is a large two-stepped leap into a deep gorge. Like many of the waterfalls of New York State, this waterfall drapes itself over a many-layered face of bedrock.

Geology and Bedrock Structure:

The falls drop over a fairly involved series of bedrock layers. From top to bottom, you have: The Moorehouse, Medrow, Edgecliffe, and Oriskany members of the Onondaga formation, the Coeymans formation, and the Jamesville, Clark Reservation, Elmwood, Olney, and Thatcher members of the Manlius formation.
