Details:

Brickett Falls is a knobby outcropping over (and around) which the meager waters of Mill Brook spill. You'll want to plan a trip to this waterfall with ample water in mind, so rainy weather, or spring visits are recommended. Along the way, you'll pass an interesting slide cascade.

Geology and Bedrock Structure:

The falls cascade over a knobby outcropping of a variegated lime silicate formation.

Photography Notes:

You'll want to catch this with water, so early in the season (I was there in late April) or after several rainy days will be best. Even then, don't expect a mad torrent. The falls are moderately photogenic. The bedrock has some interesting patterns and would be good for abstract work. The far side of the stream gives the better angles, a little rockhopping might be necessary. You'll absolutely need a polarizer as the rock is somewhat reflective and the water isn't readily distinguished from the surrounding bedrock. A warming filter might come in handy as the overall color palette is rather cool. Focal lengths in the 28-70mm range should capture this waterfall well.

Directions:

Take Route 113 to North Chatham. Just north of North Chatham, look on the west side of the road for the Mount Meader Trail. The falls are a little over a mile up the trail.
