Cohoes Falls is an enormously wide block waterfall on the Mohawk River in Cohoes. Finding a decent vantage point was moderately confusing. Eventually, a good view was found from a small park on the south side of the river. The falls would be magnificent in full spate, but we saw a wide waterfall with a lot of industrial intrusion.

The falls were once problematic to shoot due to the proliferation of high voltage transmission lines from the old viewpoint, but a new park a short ways upriver makes photography a breeze. You'll need a wider lens for many shots as the falls are about 1100' across the brink. Telephoto lenses will allow you to isolate smaller portions of the falls.

Just before the Route 32 bridge over the Mohawk River, turn upstream, past several large old mill buildings in the process of being renovated and look for a small parking lot on the left side of the road. Park here and cross the bridge over the canal to a nice viewing platform.
