Details:

Mongaup Falls is, according to the postcard, the 3rd tallest falls in New York state. I know the USGS topo maps show an elevation of 935' for Mongaup Falls Reservoir, and 814' for the Rio Reservoir located downstream, for an elevation loss of 121'. Reviewing the aerial photos, there seems to be a substantial series of ledges just below the dam at Mongaup Falls Reservoir. Topo maps indicate a drop of roughly 60-80'. If I were a gambling man, I'd start by looking here, but only in high water. Also, there is a stream that enters the valley below the dam from the west. It is called Long Falls Brook...hmmmm. D'ya think?

Directions:

Take Route 42 into Forestburg. Turn west on Mill Road and follow it downstream (ignoring the right turn on Plank Road) to the powerhouse. There should be a road on the right that leads up the Mongaup River to the dam.
