Cold Brook Falls is on the north side of Mount Madison, along with a few dozen others. The Randolph/Low & Burbanks Grant area is teeming with waterfalls. This one is as nice as any of the others. Cold Brook drops over a 20' plunge into a pool below. The falls are first visible from the footbridge as the Amphibrach Trail crosses Cold Brook. Swimming or wading here is not allowed, as Cold Brook is the water supply for Randolph.

Cold Brook Falls occurs at a contact zone between the Two Mica Granite (formerly referred to as the Bickford Granite) and the Ammonoosuc Volcanics.

The area around the falls is heavily wooded, hence shaded and cool-toned. The falls face north, so a sunny day is going to cause streaky light problems here all day long. This is best shot in sweet light or on an overcast day. A polarizer and a warming filter are both desirable. Use of a tripod will yield the best photos. 50mm of focal length will be sufficient here.

On Route 2 in Randolph, park in the large lot on the south side of the road. This area is the trailhead for a number of trails including the Amphibrach Trail, The Links Trail, and the Fallsway Trail. Follow the Amphibrach Trail to the Cold Brook crossing. The falls are about 100' upstream.
